Why is it that some cyclists seem to be happy for others to have overly expensive bikes and components, when a bike several thousand pounds cheaper would perform the same function for the most part, but have real issues with people "wasting" money on expensive cycle clothing?
I have loads of cycle clothing, and lots of Rapha gear. I bought the Rapha clothing after having tried many other brands. For me Rapha is very well made, and has attention to detail that makes that little difference. For instance the little sewn in pump pocket on the jerseys and jackets that fits a mini pump prefectly and holds it upright and secure. I lost a nice mini pump from a jersey pocket when it jumped out on a descent and got trashed by a following car, so that feature alone saves me money.
Sportwool doesn't pick up smells any quicker than pure merino - I have several pure merino tops as well as Sportwool. But Sportwool does hold it's shape better, and survives washing better. The gloves are the best I've ever worn and still going strong after over 20,000 miles, and in fact look better now than when new.
The one thing I think Rapha are bettered in is thier bib shorts, my Assos F1 Mille S5's are much better, but I do like Rapha's 3/4's and longs, the cut is nice and the material has lasted well.
