Slowly my nicer bike is becoming more and more carbon. At this point I need to switch the saddle, bars, crank and wheels, but pretty much all the other carbon-able components are carbon already (the frame is AL; but I'll keep it that way). If I'm going to be going up against all the crazy $$$ geared TT bikes I might as well roll in with some bling myself.
Most TT bikes are relatively heavy- with aero frames, a rear disk, maybe a trispoke front, aerobars- and most courses are relatively flat. I'd worry more about getting aero than saving a few grams on a crank.
