Their biggest advantage, by far, is that they don't need lube. This is very nice for commuters. Other advantages are that they supposedly last much longer than chains, and weight less (negligible for the type of riding they'll see). Disadvantages are that there are no external deraillers for them (yet), and you have to split your frame to install them.
