I think that is the key... Start riding the bike as soon as you have milked all of the spousal sympathy out of it.
In discussing mine with other patients, the recovery rate can be significantly different for a few patients... although there are guidelines your doctor should have given you for activity. That plus listening to your body are good starting points.
For me, I was able to do most activities fairly soon as long as I kept things positioned carefully. But, in my case, I was still extra tender to minor impact for about a year.
