I would always worry about the carbon cracking on a fast descent after hitting a pothole. Zipp has a good rep but I have seen rims cracked. there are plenty of lightwieght aluminum rims that build out to 1,600 gram wheelsets. I know there are carbon rims that can be built out to 1,200 grams and less, but I just can't imagine descenting at 50 mph on them.
