The only recumbent I've ever ridden with was a BF member who talked literally non-stop about how recumbents were so much better than regular bikes ... and we'd be so much faster if we were on recumbents like him ... and he knew these recumbents that embarassed other fast riders ... and ... and and ...

I'm a ****** and dropped him like a rock on a short semi-steep hill. He whined for the next half an hour about how he'd have done better if he'd put that other cassette on last night but didn't ... and recumbents really aren't slower on hills, that's a myth ... and just wait until the downhills, he'd smoke us for sure ... and ...

Mr. Recumbent pulled ahead on the last big downhill, so my buddy on a 90's Guerciotti with downtube shifters and 7 speeds hammered out and left him in the dust. At the bottom, Mr. Recumbent could barely even speak. I think he mumbled 'man... he's... fast.'.

Heh.
