Sounds like he misses the spotlight -- and the sport. I admire that he'll do it despite knowing he might come up short. Merckx, Hinault, Indurain all lost a last one before retiring, which is noble to not quit while you're ahead. Maybe his love of the sport has trumped his desire to play it safe.
