mineral spirits or WD40, WD40 is easier on my nose so I usually just stick with that. Usually just spray some on a cloth and wipe everything to get all the gunk off, then use a dry cloth to remove some of the excess liquids, then I use the already dirty cloth and clean the chain by pedaling it through the moist cloth and switching positions whenever the current path gets all black, I continue until it is pretty much clean. Then oil.
