Lost Deraileur cable end inside of Ultegra 6600 Shift lever

The cable end to my rear derailleur cable is stuck inside my Shamino Ultegra 6600 break levers. The levers themselves still function (brakes work, I hear the clicks as I would if shifting). When I hold the brake lever down I can see bits of the frayed derailleur wire sticking out (but cant see the cable end itself) - I can see the channel where the cable would run. (Picture attached)

I've seen the exploded view of the brake lever but it doesn't really show detail of the where the derailleur cable would run or connect. I have to take the brake lever apart to retrieve the brake end - any suggestions on how to proceed?
