Rear wheel removal on shaft drive Fendt

I have acquired a most unusual shaft drive (think BMW motorcycle) Fendt bicycle. Inside the right chainstay is a shaft which transmits power to the back wheel. There is also 3-speed internal gearing in the rear hub. Although the driveshaft and bevel gears have been maintenance-free, it is not clear at all how to remove the rear wheel so that I can change the tire. Anyone have any experience with one of these chainless wonders?
