To the OP: I don't understand why Performance == bad while other online retailers == good. What's the message here?
For what it's worth, I got great service and advice from my former local Performance store (Charlottesville, VA). Try taking a pair of shoes back to a 'typical' LBS after you've decided they didn't fit after all.
I agree - I don't think that it's rational to regard Performance as "bad" and other online retailers as "good." Performance is able to have low prices because they move enough product to have narrower margins. Maybe the Wal-Mart paradigm makes me think that any big box store (or online retailer) that moves a lot of product and has deep discounts is somehow doing something evil.
Do I really think that Performance Bike is evil?: No.
Will I feel guilty the next time I order from them?: Probably.
