2. A full carbon frame would be nice, not so much for the lesser weight but because I'm a decent sized guy and I'm a bit worried about flex with the aluminum.

3. The dura-ace upgrade is a valid point, occasionally I will have it shift on me out of nowhere, mostly on fast uphill climbs. I have no idea why this happens, though I think it's because when I shift down for the hill the chain is getting caught somewhere and then suddenly jerks into place. I've checked this out myself and taken in to my favorite LBS and they couldn't find anything, so who knows. And dura-ace comes standard on the bikes I'm looking at so why not.

So those are my reasons, some may find them valid, others may not.
1. The more bikes, the merrier.

2. A different material isn't the answer, a different kind of frame is.

3. A bike shop that couldn't diagnose a problem with a bike? Blimey, that is unfortunate.

I'd work on getting the bike you have now in good shape before you started looking for a new one. At least if the new rig breaks you won't be surprised by a ghost shifting, noisy monster that seems hell bent on letting everyone within earshot know you are riding something old.
