id like to point out that the 9 speed hub weighs around 4.3 lbs according to my googling.

this isnt a lot in absolute terms, though if the bike weighs 25 lbs its a decent percentage of the weight. not sure how much gears and a derailleur weigh, but definitely a lot lighter

still, a hub is awesomely reliable and weather resistant, a good move for a commuter imo
