Ha Nope - You are right. edit: I'm running with an 11 on the low end. Thanks.
I put the bike in the 52 ring and measured the distance on the floor. Embarrassingly enough it was nowhere near 60mph. 1/2 revolution of the crank = 17 feet..... I'll add shame to that dose of humiliation by admitting that I have delayed purchasing the chain rings. I'm disappointed that I cannot just switch the 42 to a 36 ring. As I understand it, the smallest ring that can be put on a 130mm is a 38.
After talking with a parts salesman I decided to purchase a different cassette, as a temporary fix. I purchased a 11X34 cassette. This might help me get an extra gear out of the bottom of the 42.
I will most likely switch to the Sugino XD600 crank and pick up a new BB - put the Truvativ hardware in the boneyard. I KNOW the Sugino crank works with the 11x34 cassette because I have that setup on my Surly and the gearing IS perfect for me. The question in that scenario is will the front deraileur work. Oh brother.
God bless the mechanics here on BF that help us correct our wayward purchases.
