I have familly and physical limits and can only get away for a about 2 weeks, and not ever year. That makes me a tourist, but I don't live on the road. There are things that I consider more worthwhile and adventurous that I used to be able to do before I smashed both legs. I actually didn't expect to be able to ride a bike for an extended period of time, but it worked out that I can, so here I am.

Another sorta non-tourist catagory is the person who does one great ride but that is it. Like maybe a trans-continental post college treat, but that's it. Not that they didn't like it, but it was nonetheless something they easily left behind. Maybe t was someone else's idea, or that boyfriend/girlfriend combo is no longer there.
