Avid makes the best cable actuated brakes across the board period. I reserve judgement on their hydro's until I've ridden them, however they spent enough time in R&D and testing that they have to be pretty damn good for them to even bother releasing them - after all they've got a reputation to keep. It's not like they're Shimano and can buy a rep.
I took a C-dale for a spin around the parking lot a couple of weeks ago at the LBS. It had the Juicy 7's on it and they feel completely different than the BB7's, and not in a bad way. I swear it's like someone stuck a brick wall in front of you when you grab the levers. I was undoubtedly impressed.
