I've been going to RBM since the "old location" in the late '70's, so yeah, I hear ya. For a few years there I was bringing friends in and Jim sold quite a few bikes to people I sent his way. Then they went thru a really bad snobby period; many many cases like mentioned above. But honestly, I think the crew they have now is the best they've had.
True, there are plenty of other good LBS's. I hit up Plano Cycling & Fitness sometimes too, and will frequently wander into random shops if I happen to be nearby and have time to kill. But RBM is closest to me, and even though I rarely need more than a tube and some energy powder, I do like to dawdle and browse.
+ a million on "when you go" is really important. Here's a tip: Saturday at 1 pm, is not a time to get low-key, great service. Try Monday at 6, or Thursday at 3. Get the idea?
