Suddenly flying from right to left across the highway was a large mallard duck at a height of around 6' off the ground. The SUV, which had just passed me at approximately 80 mph collided with the duck- it hit the upper right corner of the windshield and support strut to the roof of the car.
had something similar happen. Had 9 bikes on the roof (all in trays) and we struck what I later determined to be some kind of hawk/bird of prey. It took quite a while to clean him out of the bikes and roof bars. The bikes on the roof probably reduced our near cross country drive to 10-15 mpg.
