Nederland, which sits at Barker Reservoir (the largest body of water in the first pic) is at 8230. The base at Eldora ski area is around 9250. I've never measured the length of the shelf road on the computer, but its not more than a couple of miles.
I've been up in the Nederland area many times and down the road a bit near the CU alpine research area, but never with my bike... someday I'll get out there.
