I stop and pick up returnable cans if I'm not in any hurry and have space in my panniers. I've probably picked up 2 or 3 dozen cans over the years. I generally leave them for a week or so, in case some poor person comes by looking for cans to turn into cash (there are a few wandering here), but that really never happens over most of my route because it's very rural here.
