Has anyone made a 42 rear gear by welding a 42 steel crank ring to the largest gear on a freewheel or cassette? If so what brand of steel gear did you use and what freewheel or cassette. I think I would like to weld a 42 steel to a shimano 7 speed cassette but don't know what 42 to get and what size cassette to use.

There are Suntour cassettes and freewheels with 38T rings still available if that would be close enough.
