We should all have a single speed to remind us of the good old days of 20 inch wheels and gears fixed at 44-16. The urban/freeride guys think it's something new. Not that there's anything wrong with that, but we called it riding across town when we were little punks on BMX bikes. Now it's fun to whip past some weenie on his full suspension sled while I'm on my featherweight single. It's a custom Easton tubed frameset, Manitou black Elite (I think, the decals came off so long ago, I could be wrong) basic Mavic/Deore wheelset with Ti skewers, Titec seat/XTR post, Kore stem/Ritchie bars, Avid levers/brakes, Azonic headlock, and XT cranks with a bash guard replacing the big ring, and the chain cut to the perfect length so that the full cassette is on there, but only the 5th cog is used. No tension device, just luck. I can probably put it all back together in 20 minutes if I need to.
