Differences... my AL bike is fast, lightweight, agressive, effecient, has a transmission and I'd never leave it locked anywhere unattended.
My steel bike is heavier, smoother riding, not frightened by potholes and theives, happy in the rain, can be rode in any shoes, and looks good wearing a u-lock.
Why ride either one... the answer is pretty obvious.
