How much seat post is to much?
With the help of forum member T-Mar (thanks again!) I've been able to identify a Miyata Team I've aquired as a 50cm 1990 model. The bike is not completely original but is in beautiful condition. On a modern road bike I would normally ride anything from 51-53 cm. On the 50cm Miyata to fit on the bike with proper leg extention it would show at least 6 inches of seatpost. Not uncommon with a modern sloping toptube bike but is it excessive on a classic racing bike? How much seatpost would have shown back in the day when this bike was being raced? I would love to be able to make this bike work but at the same time I don't want it to look dorky. The bike deserves to be in service with a rider that fits it.
Any comments?
