The technology is interesting but absolutely useless on a bicycle. They should talk to the moto folks, maybe?
It sounds like their reynolds number needed to be just a bit higher to get the laminar turbulent transition they needed, and so they bumped their speed to get that. It would be interesting to do smoke trails on a bike in the real world, or put a bike in a rolling wind tunnel rather than on a stand in a static one. It seems that all the constant adjustment you do riding would make the flow more turbulent than a tunnel shows it to be.
