the whole point is to be able to slide the bag from your back to your front, so you can get to your manifest/packages without taking it off. i tried working a couple months with a backpack and, while the even weight distribution was nice, i just got really tired of having to take it on and put it on the floor every few minutes (like 30-40 times a day). - if the convenience of sliding a messenger bag around doesn't benefit you, i don't see what the point of having one over a backpack is either.
You've got it exactly right.
I just switched over to a backpack and I LOVE it when I am wearing it because it doesn't pull on one shoulder all day, but I really miss just tossing around my messenger bag and getting stuff out in 5 seconds. Now its like 30 - 45 seconds which makes a difference for me in the long run but would make no difference to someone who takes stuff out twice a day.
Say you get 25 runs in a day, that's opening and closing a bag 50 times. 50 x .5 = 25 minutes. Thats about a wasted half an hour every day. My back is thanking me severly though...
