Fenders rock for commuting.
I used to have Honjos but they felt flimsy to me and they were a PITA to install.
Something eventually caused the fender to get pulled into the tire and then the fender folded up underneath it self, bring the bike to a screeching halt. I had to tear the fender in half to get moving again which was actually pretty easy. Now I have Berthoud stainless steel fenders. Easier to install, predrilled, mount better, and they feel rock solid. No noise either. They don't look as cool as the honjo hammered finish but I like them a lot better. I got their leather mudflap too.
My old bike used to have the plastic silver sks fenders and I even liked those better than the honjos.
Here's the Berthoud fenders.
