on topic, i'm currently satisfied with a seal-line rolltop backpack, which is supposed to be a light drybag (will float briefly, etc). i have the medium which is narrow and tallish, but i'm skinny and have a small torso so it's a good fit. straps aren't as nice as chrome's but there's a waist and sternum strap, and it can be adjusted higher for non-riding use (unlike chrome). one big pocket and a small flat one on the outside, also weather-resistant.

i'd like to make some sort of removable pouch with several pockets and an internal pack sheet to keep everything organized, but haven't gotten around to it yet.
