First, nothing is rotating, it is a morphing 2-dimensional shape.
It can be perceived as rotating cw or ccw from either perspective, from the top down or the bottom up. And you can perceive it pivoting back and forth, exposing either the "front" or the "back".
But trust me, nothing is rotating or pivoting.
Wow, thank you masters of the obvious. The "spinning" object has no dimensional shading, it is only black, hence the 2-D comment. That is why it can be perceived to spin or pivot in either direction. sheeesh
