You can also streamline it a bit too.
I go for 70's and 80's racebikes, where at least I have a base of knowledge, like what brands are better etc. I prefer Italian stuff, but am open to anything. My component knowledge is more early 80's based (need to get up to speed on late 80's early 90's components-check Bottecchia thread).
The era and the bikes are special to me, they are from my carefree youth, so there is actual excitement and passion. Don't underestimate the passion factor!
Don't collect bikes solely because they are inexpensive or vintage/old. Learn to WALK AWAY, just because it costs $15.00 doesn't mean it is worth your time or energy. I have walked away from a lot of vintage bikes with no regrets. Quality not quantity.
