Really dont over do it. Add 10% per week for a month or so. Then go from there.
Bad idea; when you turn around to go back you'll realize "oh, crap, I can't ride any further". On one of my first few rides I went about 25 miles one direction and turned around and was about 15 miles from home and thought about just riding into the oncoming traffic; 'twas a thought provoking and painful experience.

I've always heard time is a better way to gauge yourself than actual mileage.
