DarkStar and I did hook up for a nice ride about a week ago. I came down from the mountains, he came up from Denver and we collided, so to speak, in Golden. Did Lookout Mt. and some other pretty steep stuff on the south side of I70.
I had a great time; always wanted to do some of the rides around Golden. I look forward to returning the favor (and taking my turn to buy the beer) when he comes up here to do some of my favorite area rides.
I almost decided to do Golden Gate and would have been right in your neighborhood, but ended up doing Deer Creek up High Grade in to Evergreen and back. Got caught in a hail storm at 9,000' for a bit.
Back on topic, there are certainly some great rides here that we could share with others. I do like northern Italy a lot though.
