That's why you pull up over the crosswalk if you think you'll be able to right on red, but only after scanning for a likely pedestrian without finding one. As a pedestrian I generally don't go in front of vehicles that are on the crosswalk because it means they're ready to gun it at any second.

Ahem, as a bicyclist I always watch where I'm going. There probably won't be a ped, but there probably will be a pot hole!
