Both routes are good.

For the first route, try the following:

After turning onto Ford,
Turn Right on E. Citrus Ave.
Left on Crafton Ave.
Right on Mill Creek/Hwy 38

For the second route, if you want less traffic try the following changes.

After making the right on Outer Hwy 10,
Turn left on 16th St.
Turn right on Avenue E
Turn left on Bryant St
Turn right on Oak Glen

This will take you to Stater Brothers, the last rest stop before the serious climbing up Oak Glen
