Firstly, I'm glad you found the problem, it coulda been painful!

The BB suggestion comes from if it had been the BB causing the problem, rather than trying to fix it a sealed unit would be better (and I think should of been fitted in the first place). Warranty's are good but like you have said, Dahon take a while get sort things out. If you have other bikes thats not a problem but if it's your only one, a quick solution is better in my book
