People who don't own cars should get a serious cut in property and income tax. Roads, bridges and other infrastructure for cars account for a ****ing ridiculous proportion of government spending. Further, the area taken up by car lanes is valuable property.
I like Ontario's recent sales tax exemption for bikes and accessories, but it's not nearly enough. Tell people they'll get a significant drop in taxes for ditching their car for good and we may get somewhere. Gotta build good public transportation first though, and N.A. is a damned lost cause on that one.
(Yea, I realize bikes need "roads" of some sort...I'm not going to bother explaining why that doesn't come close to debunking my argument.)
