By low red blood count, do you mean your iron reading was low? Were your hands cold when they stuck your finger? My iron reads low all the time and it's due to my cold fingers. I now ask for a finger warmer (one of those little chemical heating pads). I hold it in my hand for a couple of minutes and my iron reading goes back up to normal.
