statistics show those who ride bikes regularly live longer and with fewer ailments than those who do not get the recommended minimum aerobic exercise needed to maintain health (80% of the general population) and although cyclists a whole generally encounter more minor injuries (primarily scrapes - aka - road rash) than the average person they do not suffer major injuries to any larger degree than any other group.
One would think this should lead to lower insurance premiums, but the insurance industry needs to stretch the risk to as many customers as possible to keep those payments affordable so, it's unusual to have a cyclist have lower premiums than an (generally and in comparison) unhealthy motorist.
