I spent about 10-15 minutes on the trainer at home. First ride practiced getting out (an in) a bunch of times. About the 3rd ride I approached an intersection, thought it was clear and didn't bother to unclip. Suddenly spotted a fast approaching car and he had the right of away. Jammed on the brakes and came to a near halt with both feet solidly in the pedals. I managed to pull one loose just in time. Scary, but I got lucky and no fall.
A few tips:
1. Learn to unclip with either foot.
2. Learn to unclip in different points in the pedalling cycle.
3. My pedals allow me to rotate either in or out to unclip. If your's do, then practice this.
4. Learn to love your clipless pedals!
