Non-smokers do not get better rates, contrary to popular opinion. It is all calculated based on life expectancy. For example, let's say you are 30. Assume life expectancy for non-smokers is 80. Assume life expectancy for smokers is 60.

The smoker has NeededCustomerIncome/30 years. The non-smoker has NeededCustomerIncome/50 years. Naturally since you only have 30 years to fill the premium bucket for non-smokers, the rate/year will be higher.

Risk and rating depends on amount of insurance. If insurance policy is for millions, I know they will want to know about: sky diving, deep sea diving, auto racing, and other higher risk activities. Oh, they will also be more exacting about family and personal medical history. If you had a bypass, your rate will be either skyhigh, or they won't insure you.
No bicycle riding or even racing is not on their radar. Too few numbers to justify the underwriting costs. And the increase in mortality is not even a bip on the tables.

Just so you know, I don't sell insurance any more, but I did for 5 years.
