I never understood the point of commuting on a bike other than maybe a Bikes Direct Single speed...I don't need style points on my commute since any other cyclist I meet I pass at the same relative speed that cars pass me and any style points they have are down the drain.
not to mention it reduces the needless clutter of having more than 2 bikes, 3 if you enjoy mountain biking as well as recreational road riding and commuting.
There's no reason why commuting on a bike can't be just as fun and exhilarating as a recreational solo ride. Yes, you have cargo, but I almost always have cargo as I like to have a book, my tools, and my notepad when I do recreational solo rides.
