I may have some of this wrong, so someone chime in if I am. Match sprints are two outa three races. They draw to see who will lead the first lap, and the rider has to be in front on the completion of the first lap (the leader of the first round will be the follower on the second round). After that it's game on, so the lead rider tries to get the other rider in go in front of him. They used to do track stands and all other forms of trickery to do this, because you want to be in second place on the final lap to get the draft up to the finish line. If the second rider gets a decent jump on the leader then he can get far enough away for a draft to be very difficult. That guy got smoked by Theo on the jump, so it was a waste to try and chase him down as Theo is just that fast. Better to save the juice for the next round (if there is one).
