I've ridden both extensively. I can honestly say I'm not strong enough to notice and I certainly can't feel a difference.

Now...Campy square taper equates to older technology. Octalink also...but it is one generation newer.

My feeling is if it is properly adjusted and holding the crank on correctly, then it's doing it job. And if it's an upper level model, it's probably light enough.
