The bike I have with ST bb's flexes a lot, then again it's an 80's steel race bike so that's part of the game. It has never really given me problems in my, albeit, limited use.
Definitely it's the steel bike. I have late 80s steel touring bike, it flexes a lot when I stomp on it hard.

Campy square taper is similar in its performance and temperament. Keep it clean, and it'll last for a very long time.
Same can be said for most square taper BB out there (Shimano UN5X/UN7X, Phil Wood, etc), except FSAs.
