Well, I guess I'd be in the minority here to say that it's probably a recipe for mediocrity. If you want to sort of run-ish a marathon, and do okay in the 4s, it'll work out. If you want to put down a solid marathon time and plan on beating up the 4s, it probably won't.
Specificity is king.
Sometimes the goal of a race is to finish standing up. I have found that I can do multiple races during the year with no problem if I don't go fast enough to hurt myself (i.e., push for a
PR every time). I still get my heart rate up between 80-85% so I'm not taking it easy, just easier.
