Well ... like I said ... "priorities". We've all made our choices in life, and have our own priorities. If a cyclist really wanted to ride 18-30 hours a week, that cyclist could do so by making cycling his/her priority. If, however, cycling 18-30 hours a week isn't as important as another priority (such as children) then he/she won't likely cycle that much. It's our own personal choice of what's important in our lives.
That's why I love commuting to work by bike. I kill two birds with one stone. It takes a little longer than driving, but not a whole lot. I also rely on the showers at work to take my morning shower, and often heat up some oatmeal and eat breakfast at work. I get in cycling time and don't really have to take time away from my family. It also relieves stress and helps me sleep better. It's a panacea. The only bad part is winter, it's the one time I wished I lived in California again.
