I clip mine around the front of my bars so the top of the helmet is pointing forwards and the straps are going over/under the bars and around the stem. The reach to the stem on my bike is just long enough to take up most of the slack in the straps so the helmet stays reasonably still. But I don't mount my bike to buses.
