I can identify... similar conditions here in S'toon (-13C, dropping to -18C this afternnoon) but I think you must have received more snow than us. I definately prefer the packed snow/ice to soft snow/ruts. I ride a hybrid w/ 700c x 38 studded tires. I was slipping around pretty good in the soft stuff! A few tense moments, but only had to put my foot down once.
