Meh... I don't carry water with me unless it's over 100 degrees and the ride is going to be more than 45 minutes.
My current commute is 8.5 miles each way... previous was 12.5 miles each way. I only carried a water bottle during the hottest part of the summer.
My procedure? Throw on my sweatshirt and windbreaker, walk downstairs, wrap a rubber strip around my pant leg, unlock my bike and ride off. Total time? From my desk to the road takes me about 3 minutes.
It helps that I'm comfortable with where I park the bike and don't have to strip anything off of it when I go up to the office.
