The new cleats with the rubber stops on them last longer because you have to wear through the rubber, but the rubber pulls loose and snags. It also tends to produce annoying squeaks. I know a couple teammates are so annoyed at the new cleats they are also considering a switch. Bottom line - the pedals themselves are good, the cleats are a f'ing abomination.
So now it's a question of how much you ride? When someone replied earlier in this thread that they had 10k miles, and not much wear, you said yours were wearing because you commute, and had to stop at lights. Now I point out that I do the same thing, and I'm not having a problem, and you are now saying the wear is because of the amount of miles you put in. Ok.
And FWIW, I haven't been riding nearly as much since a back injury that I've been dealing with since mid-summer, but I work 5-6 days a week, about 24 miles round trip, so that's 120-140 miles a week, approximately, and I normally do several recreational/training rides a week outside of that, so yeah, I do put in similar mileage.
Look, I'm not trying to bust your balls here; if they aren't working for you, you certainly should switch. What is causing the wear on your cleats, though, seems to be a mystery. You sure you aren't doing a lot of walking around in them?
